I grew up in the countryside of Oregon State, USA where the Hoaglin family has been settled for many generations. I attended Portland State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984. In 1988, I graduated with Clinical Honors from the Oregon Health Sciences University, School of Dentistry earning a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Over the years I have passed dental board exams in three countries where I have lived and worked (Oregon:1988, Hong Kong:1992, and New Zealand:2000). I practiced dentistry in Oregon for three years before moving to Hong Kong with my wife, Emily, who was working for NIKE and given the opportunity to transfer overseas. Her contract in Hong Kong was for two years and we both were ready for an adventure. As is often the case here in Hong Kong, those initial two years became many more. During that time, I had the privilege of working in the office of an extraordinary American dentist for nearly ten years before Emily and I settled fully into the rural life of the South Island of New Zealand in 2002. Together, we established a new dental office in a small village near our home. We quickly established a faithful following of patients desiring the high quality dental care and customer service we provided. In May 2007, after several years of the "quiet life", we made the decision to return to live and work in Hong Kong. We found ourselves missing the cultural activities and vibrant lifestyle of city life. After working in several locations in Hong Kong and Shanghai throughout the sale of the New Zealand dental office, I am now happily settled into my own office in Central, Hong Kong. Here, I am able to utilize all my skills to the fullest providing personal high quality dental care. I find a great deal of satisfaction in keeping myself current in dentistry through continuing education studies. Since 1984, I have been hooked on dentistry and learning. In 1996, after my first 500 hours of continuing education courses and passing a comprehensive examination, I earned a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry. Since 2008, I have been working through a program in advanced restorative care at the Kois Center in Seattle, Washington. This program has had a tremendous impact to further enhance my knowledge in all aspects of restorative dentistry. I graduated from the program in April 2011 and will now prepare myself for the mentorship examination in 2012 so that I can teach other dentists the science based methods to make dentistry predictable and fun. |
